Letters From Your Neighbors

I'm very concerned after hearing in the news this morning about a small car company backed by former Vice President Al Gore that just got a $529 million U.S. government loan to help build a hybrid sports car in Finland that will sell for about $89,000. Even more disturbing is this loan to the California startup Fisker Automotive Inc. follows a $465 million government loan to Tesla Motors Inc. who is developing a $109,000 British-built electric Roadster. After hearing this story on the Today Show I found an article on line written by Josh Mitchell and Stephen Power with the Wall Street Journal, where they report that “Tesla is a California startup focusing on all-electric vehicles, with a number of celebrity endorsements that is backed by investors that have contributed to Democratic campaigns”
The article went on to report that the money given to Fisker and Tesla “have prompted concern from companies that have had their bids for loans rejected, and criticism from groups that question why vehicles aimed at the wealthiest customers are getting loans subsidized by taxpayers.” Furthermore they quoted Leslie Paige, a spokeswoman for Citizens Against Government Waste, an anti-tax group in Washington."This is not for average Americans, this is for people to put something in their driveway that is a conversation piece. It's status symbol thing." (link to Wall Street Journal article: http://online.wsj.com/article/SB125383160812639013.html?mod=googlenews_wsj )
Is this another case of our tax dollars being given away to the wrong people for all the wrong reasons?? Will we ever benefit from the spending of these tax dollars, it’s our money being spent?? I don’t know about you but I’m sick of my taxes going up every year and the reckless way it’s being spent when I’m struggling to pay my bills and provide for my family! I’m tired of politicians telling us what we want to hear to get elected and when they get into office doing nothing they promised, but they waste our money and raise our taxes and don’t address or fix any of the real problems we have to deal with every day!
Enough is enough when are we going to take control and put a stop to this?? Make sure you vote on November 3rd, and vote for change!!

I was doing some work on my computer this morning the day before the 4th of July holiday, when I received an email message from a friend. The email contained a copy of a letter that was sent to the editor of The Orange County California Newspaper. The woman who wrote the letter made some good points. The email pointed out the fact that for some reason, people have difficulty structuring their arguments when arguing against supporting the currently proposed immigration revisions. The lady that wrote this letter made her argument pretty simple although It Was Never Printed in the Orange County Paper. The email message went on say Newspapers simply won't publish letters to the editor which they either deem politically incorrect (read below) or which does not agree with the philosophy they're pushing on the public. I believe this woman’s letter to the editor that should have been published, therefore I decided to submit a copy her letter to published via this City Guide Site and I sincerely hope they will publish it!"

From: 'David LaBonte' “My wife, Rosemary, wrote a wonderful letter to the editor of the OC Register which, of course, was not printed. So, I decided to 'print' it myself by sending it out on the Internet. Pass it along if you feel so inclined. Written in response to a series of letters to the editor in the Orange County Register : “
“ Editor: So many letter writers have based their arguments on how this land is made up of immigrants. Ernie Lujan for one, suggests we should tear down the Statue of Liberty because the people now in question aren't being treated the same as those who passed through Ellis Island and other ports of entry.
Maybe we should turn to our history books and point out to people like Mr. Lujan why today's American is not willing to accept this new kind of immigrant any longer. Back in 1900 when there was a rush from all areas of Europe to come to the United States, people had to get off a ship and stand in a long line in New York and be documented. Some would even get down on their hands and knees and kiss the ground. They made a pledge to uphold the laws and support their new country in good and bad times. They made learning English a primary rule in their new American households and some even changed their names to blend in with their new home.
They had waved good bye to their birth place to give their children a new life and did everything in their power to help their children assimilate into one culture. Nothing was handed to them. No free lunches, no welfare, no labor laws to protect them. All they had were the skills and craftsmanship they had brought with them to trade for a future of prosperity.
Most of their children came of age when World War II broke out. My father fought along side men whose parents had come straight over from Germany , Italy , France and Japan . None of these first generation Americans ever gave any thought about what country their parents had come from. They were Americans fighting Hitler, Mussolini and the Emperor of Japan .. They were defending the United States of Americas one people.
When we liberated France , no one in those villages was looking for the French American or the German American or the Irish American. The people of France saw only Americans. And we carried one flag that represented one country. Not one of those immigrant sons would have thought about picking up another country's flag and waving it to represent who they were. It would have been a disgrace to their parents who had sacrificed so much to be here. These immigrants truly knew what it meant to be an American. They stirred the melting pot into one red, white and blue bowl.
And here we are in 2009 with a new kind of immigrant who wants the same rights and privileges. Only they want to achieve it by playing with a different set of rules, one that includes the entitlement card and a guarantee of being faithful to their mother country. I'm sorry, that's not what being an American is all about. I believe that the immigrants who landed on Ellis Island in the early 1900's deserve better than that for all the toil, hard work and sacrifice in raising future generations to create a land that has become a beacon for those legally searching for a better life I think they would be appalled that they are being used as an example by those waving foreign country flags.
And for that suggestion about taking down the Statue of Liberty , it happens to mean a lot to the citizens who are voting on the immigration bill. I wouldn't start talking about dismantling the United States just yet. “

" I felt compelled to write this after reading the story about the tragic accident of Eastern High School graduate Evan Goldglantz and a recent update on his condition that his wife wrote on his website dated February 17, 2009. The link to the website is http://www.showevanyourlove.com./ . Each of us is faced everyday with growing bad news about the state of our economy, concerns about our jobs, our ability to pay our bills and provide for our families. In these difficult times it’s easy to forget about everyone but yourself, your family and what you need to survive, but now more than ever there are others that need our help! I’ve come to realize that no matter what we are faced with or the issues we have to deal with, there is always someone else that has a greater need then ourselves. As difficult as things may be for us we can’t forget about those in our own communities and realize that some of our own neighbors need our help. I don’t personally know Evan or his family but plan to do what I can to help them by giving what I can, including my prayers. Please do what you can to help the Goldglantz family deal with and get through these difficult times, even if all you can do is pray for them. We can make and keep our community strong if we always remember those in need and do what we can to help! My thoughts and prayers are with Evan and his family! "
